Designing an options trading platforms portfolio for users. The portfolio focuses on the ability to swap different coins in your portfolio, view balances across different trading instruments (spot, perpetual, options), as well as view transaction history across specific timelines. The primary goal of this project was to design an intuitive and comprehensive portfolio management interface for an options trading platform.
Project Context: The PSY Options trading platform needed an improved portfolio management system to help users manage and track their investments more effectively.
Existing Issues: Users faced difficulties in swapping between different coins, viewing balances across various trading instruments, and accessing transaction history.
Objectives
- Streamline Coin Swaps: Design an intuitive interface for users to easily swap between different cryptocurrencies.
- Consolidate Balances: Create a clear and unified view of balances across spot trading, perpetual contracts, and options.
- Enhance Transaction History: Develop a feature for users to view and filter transaction history by specific timelines.
Due to the nature of Decentralised applications, users were initially able to connect to financial products without KYC through connecting their wallet. As a result, this made it difficult to conduct user
interviews and other qualitative research. However, due to the DAO (decentralised Autonomous organisation) that operates within the Psy community we were able to interview a number of experienced
as well as experienced users within the realm of these innovative financial products and instruments.
From initial interviews we found that many traditional traders, to novice traders wanted to view their portfolio across different trading mediums in order to have a more succinct and calculated understanding of how their money was flowing in and out of their account. From this we could look at some opportunities to expose:
Proposed Features
Based on user interviews, we identified several key pain points related to the portfolio section of the PSY Options trading platform. Novice users found the coin swapping process confusing and struggled with unclear balance overviews across different trading instruments. They also desired a simplified transaction history interface. In response, we proposed implementing a user-friendly coin swap feature, a unified balance view, and intuitive transaction filters. Experienced users, on the other hand, needed more detailed balance breakdowns and advanced filtering options for transaction history. To address these needs, we introduced detailed balance summaries and robust filtering tools. Meanwhile, the degen crypto community required real-time balance updates, customizable portfolio views, and instant access to transaction history. Our solution includes real-time data refreshes, flexible display options, and quick access to comprehensive transaction records. These enhancements aim to provide a more efficient and user-centric experience across all user types.
Coupled with this we look at a range of competitors within the space to see which features they had and did not have in order to look for opportunities and features to expose.
Aside from looking at the overall trading platform, the opportunities to expose and include based off both the interviews, surveys and competitor analysis included:
- 24HR PNL toggle button with graph
- Overview, trading and transaction section
- Total assets, Account balance and recent transactions.
- Deposit/withdrawal function
- Transaction history
Based on this information, we also took the opportunity to understand other areas of the platform for future design. For context, we pulled together all the information from user interviews and colour coded them into specific functions and section to focus on:
Site map
Before getting into the design stage we also were able to develop a site map to understand how the different aspects and functions of the product fed into the portfolio page, as well as allowing users
to easily move from trading to portfolio page to support continuity and a more seamless user experience.
From this we were confident in scoping out the exact requirements necessary to feed into the portfolio design. Because of the information gathered across the whole product this was vital in informing the
information needed in the portfolio.
Overview
Due to the time constraints, we were told to go straight into high fidelity in order to compete in the innovative decentralised financial space. This first mock up gives an overview of the users total assets and is very easy to understand catering to a wide audience from novice to experienced trader. The ability to see both Total assets and PNL fluctuation in two side by side graphs gives a clear indication into how much you have and how how much you have made/ loss in any given timeline. Equally transacted assets can be selected individually or in a 'show all' state for ease of use when viewing the amount and type of assets deposited or withdrawn.
Spot Trading
The trading function also allows balances to be seen when looking across perpetual/spot and options and includes both deposit/withdrawal functionality alongside being able to swap various cryptocurrencies within ones wallet.
Perpetual Trading
Similarly, perpetual trading offers the PNL over a specific timeline as well as indicating your active position.
Options Trading
Transaction History
The transaction history allows for reviewing the types of deposit/withdrawal, asset, amount, Status in terms of whether it has been completed or not and the timeline of the transaction. This gives a comprehensive insight into your history and full transparency when dealing with technical assets that are not always immediately understandable, especially with new comers.
